Through Our Pets' Eyes

My sweet Pandy-girl. Who saves me every day.

Do you ever wonder what fur babies think?

When they’re around us, do they reckon we stink?

If we’re standing there, naked, and they stop and stare,

Are they wondering how we stay warm with no hair?

And rolling in things that we people condemn,

Do they snigger and smile cause there’s more just for them?

When we throw a ball for them, day after day,

Do they shake their heads wond’ring how it gets away?

When we go for a walk, are they just helping out,

Making sure that we’re healthy while moving about?

And watching us eat with those big, solemn eyes,

Do they simply ensure that no problems arise?

When we stare at a screen for the hours on end,

Are they thinking, “You’re rotting your brain, my dear friend!”

When they poke with the nose or lay down on the keys,

Are they saying that we need a break? (If you please!)

And when they refuse to respond when we call,

Merely pointing out what we would do, is banal?

Do they spend their lives trying to make us behave?

With the hope that so doing will Master’s life save?

Extending their lives with our caring and fuss…

Have you thought that they’re doing the same thing to us?

Cause Mondays do get knocked a lot,
With poetry, we all besought
To try to make the week begin
With gentle thoughts,
Perhaps a grin?
So JennyCharlotteMimi, me
Have crafted poems for you to see.
And now you’ve read what we have wrought…
Did we help?
Or did we not?

Check next week with us, you'll see

  2. That is so good, Dianne, great observations. And I love the way you managed to sneak 'banal' in! I agree with Charlotte that it is nice to have the themes a few weeks ahead as it give me more of a chance to come up with something. I wrote most of my poem about 2 weeks ago when the UK was heavily snow-bound.

    A Plea from Buster

I’m looking through the window, my tail is thumping hard
There’s lots of the White Stuff covering the yard.
It fell out of the sky all through the night
Now everything outside is sparkly and white.
The window pane is freezing the tip of my nose
I’m getting a tingling right down to my toes.
I want to be out there jumping and leaping
I just don’t understand how you can still be sleeping!
Just open the door, please, and let me take off -
I need to dive right into that wonderful stuff.
I’ll fly through the air and go twirling and prancing
I’m feeling very skittish; I want to go dancing,
Leaving my paw prints in the virgin white snow
So come on, please, humans, let’s GET UP and GO!

  3. I do get the feeling that dogs understand us more than we understand them. Actually, you asked some very good questions!

    1. Thanks so much, Alana! I sometimes see my Pandy looking at me and I realize she knows exactly what I'm thinking! It's a bit scary...

  6. Wonderful job! My brain came up with this topic while walking the dog, wondering what she was thinking as she read the days news with her sniffer.

trying to think of possible future topics, have you ever done the ocean (or beach), favorite invention, or the best thing about spring? Ignore, tweak, or whatever, i'm just trying to pull my weight on the topic front.

  9. That's so adorable! My dog is very talkative. I can't translate what she says but she frequently tells me off. If I only knew what she was thinking.
