Bus(t)ing Home

Because we lived a long, long way from town,
We had to ride the bus, us bunch of clowns,
And ‘early’ doesn’t quite describe our start…
Cause sunrise (with our ride), was oft’ a part.

We had adventures there, yes, that is true,
My friends and I, we laughed and read and drew,
The hour went by and turned to day from night…
And suddenly, the school’d come into sight.

At times, when it was raining cats and dogs,
The roads would turn from sandy soil to bog,
The vacuum windshield wipers, both would slow…
Whenever the bus driver tried to go.

One day the bus was having chills and pains,
Complaining as we drove across the plains,
At Angyal’s Hill, our driver told us, “Shush!”
Then made us all get out and start to push!

Now often, I hear folks talk ‘bout their past,
How ‘uphill both ways’ can’t be called a ‘blast’,
But they just simply can’t compete with us…
Cause we walked uphill AND we pushed the bus!

We win!

Cause Mondays do get knocked a lot,
With poetry, we all besought
To try to make the week begin
With gentle thoughts,
Perhaps a grin?
So KarenCharlotteMimi, me
Have crafted poems for you to see.
And now you’ve read what we have wrought…
Did we help?
Or did we not?

No politics next week, no strife,
We'll be discussing A Pet's Life!

Thinking of joining us for Poetry Monday?

  1. This brings back good memories. When our bus was going to get stuck the door opened and the big guys got out and pushed the bus out of the snow bank. 1955

  2. Never so good at rhyming so I appreciate your poem.
Yes, I was an uphill both ways gal. It actually was a mile uphill on the way to school and I hated getting up early so I had some serious calf muscles from hustling to school.
