Sometime, I’d like to take a trip,
To parts mysterious and deep,
‘Cross vast and strange new lands, I’d skip,
Go tooling in my trusty jeep.
Taking everything in stride,
No mayhem, monsters, storms or signs
Would startle me or turn the tide,
From exploration I’d designed.
I’d walk on lands both near and far,
And check out strains indigenous,
No qualms, no fears of things bizarre.
No misgivings to discuss.
I’d leave my sterile world behind,
And with my own exciting map,
Feeling free and unconfined,
Adventures falling in my lap.
I’d learn the jargon: trudge, poop deck,
Adventure, survey, navigate,
Tramp, spelunk and cruise and trek,
Ramble, hike, triangulate.
I’d do all this, and without fear,
Though one thing dims my zeal somewhat,
To see those worlds both far and near,
I’d have to get up off my butt.
Cause Mondays do get knocked a lot,
With poetry, we all besought
To try to make the week begin
With gentle thoughts,
Perhaps a grin?
So Karen, Charlotte, Mimi, me
Have crafted poems for you to see.
And now you’ve read what we have wrought…
Did we help?
Or did we not?
Next week, avoiding all convention,
We'll talk of our Fav'rite Invention!
Thinking of joining us for Poetry Monday?
We'd love to welcome you!

Ah so true, sometimes we do more dreaming than deciding.
ReplyDeleteDreaming. My favourite thing!
DeleteAh, but it would be SO worth it!
ReplyDeleteYou do have a point!
DeleteThat's why they invented reading! I've had more adventures that way.
ReplyDeleteNice. Safe. Armchair adventures. My favourite!
DeleteSmiling. How true it is - and I am with Laurie.
ReplyDeleteMe, too. I wonder if anyone has started an armchair adventures club?
DeleteThe last line was perfect. Takes a lot to get me off my butt nowadays!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Alana. Sometimes, Husby threatens to bring in a crane...
DeleteHeeheehee! Yes, i'd love to be a world traveler but then i'd have to, well, travel.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like we are getting close to the end of the list of topics we've already set. Maybe it's time to add a few more.
Have you done the topic of socks? May 9 is Lost Sock Memorial Day. May 17 is the anniversary of the patent of the rubber band. There's also always favorite breakfast, we could easily wax poetic over that.
Perfect, Mimi! I’ll add them to the list! Thank you so much!
DeleteI loved that last line - you really had me going and I was feeling envious of your pioneering spirit until I saw that! I'm sorry to say that I have no poem this week - I've not been firing on all cylinders: chronic lethargy and a head full of cotton wool, despite being outside in the fresh air. I love looking at maps and can read them quite well - years of navigating whilst my husband drives - so I'm disappointed that I couldn't drum up even a couple of lines. (Must try harder.)
ReplyDeleteJust having you join us is great, SBM! I totally understand the chronic lethargy. Hopefully as the days continue to get longer, it will pass... In the meantime, thank you for being here!
