For years, poor
Grandma’s hearing had been slowly growing worse,
T'was steadily much
tougher for her loved ones to converse,
And so she got a
hearing aid to stop her daily strife,
Was told: ‘With
perfect hearing, she’d a whole new lease on life!’
A few weeks later,
back she popped for further tests and such,
Her doctor asked if
life had changed. She told him, “Not that much.”
“The hearing aid you
chose is number one,” he said. “First-rate!”
“Your family must be
pleased, now that your hearing’s gotten great!”
But Grandma merely
smiled. “I’ve yet to tell them anything.”
“I sit around and
listen to the chats of my offspring.”
“They don’t know I can
hear their many sordid gripes and crimes,
“But I can tell you, doctor, dear, I’ve changed my will three times!”

With poetry, we all besought
To try to make the week begin
With gentle thoughts,
Perhaps a grin?
So Karen, Charlotte, Mimi, me
Have crafted poems for you to see.
And now you’ve read what we have wrought…
Did we help?
Or did we not?
Topics for the next few weeks...
Ha, the double edged sword of hearing what your family is actually saying!
ReplyDeleteHa, good one! I'm writing this down for the future....
ReplyDeleteHehe, brain not faltering, only hearing. Go go granny!
ReplyDeleteBig, big smiles.
ReplyDeleteLove this! Reminds me of when I worked in the dorm office. I don't look like I speak Spanish so all the international Hispanic students assumed I didn't. I learned a lot.
ReplyDeleteHeeheehee! You go, Granny.
ReplyDeleteIf you are looking again for future topics, Jan. 10 is Peculiar People Day. Jan. 17 is Ditch Your New Year's Resolutions Day, because by that date, most people have.
Then Jan. 24 is Opposite Day, and Jan. 31 is Typo Day, a day to celebrate the mistakes that are often so funny, especially when autocorrect is involved.
Awesome, Mimi! We'll use them all!!!
DeleteThat's so cute. You have to watch those grannies.
ReplyDeleteGranny! I feel like I would've made a fun one, too!
ReplyDeleteLol. Love it. My mother wouldn't turn it up loud enough and would accuse others of talking about her because she thought they were "whispering behind her back."
