The Texting Test

I’ve had a few now in my life,
Some are happy. Some cause strife,
Most are merely info passed,
With something someone wants broadcast,
A quick, efficient way to snoop,
By asking questions in your group,
I’m sure you’ve guessed by now, my friends
I’m talking ‘bout the texts we send…
My son-in-law first showed me how,
Soon chatting was the cat’s meow,
So easy just to type, then send,
No time on “How are you’s” to spend,
Just to the meat and then it’s done,
Of conversation, there is none,
Don’t get me wrong, I like to talk,
While we sit, or take a walk,
But sometimes all you need’s a phrase,
To inform or to liaise…
But I’ll stop there, you’ve had enough,
I’ll get to more important stuff,
The question asked, I’ll answer next
What has been my favourite text?
There’ve been so many, long and short,
Some make my cry, some make me snort,
Yes, I would have to say that’s hard,
Perhaps I’ll leave it to The Bard,
For ‘brief’ and ‘clever’ are a hit,
And: ‘Brevity is the soul of wit!’

Karen asks, "Write for me, please?"
We write because we like to please!
And we love her, you know that’s true,
So this is what we writers do . . .
We craft a poem based on a theme,
With pencils, sharp, and eyes agleam,
Each month we write and have such fun
We can't wait for another one,
With TEXTS this month, how did I do?
Please go and see the others, too:

  1. As a person who tends to make a short story long, getting used to texting was a bit of a struggle, but now I love it.

  2. Texting is nice for those short questions needing an answer like Yes, No, or 9 am.
For more conversation I like face to face words!

  3. For quick stuff like "I'm on my way" or "meet me at noon at the restaurant" or "yes, I can pick that up" texting is fine. Also something else - if you need a written record of what a person promised to do, or something you need a record of, it's great for that. But maybe I've watched too many judge shows!

  4. Texting is great, especially if the person is wordy on the phone and you simply don't have time for that long, leisurely conversation.

    The Bard was brilliant.
