The sign there
in the country store gave Paul, the shopper, pause,
BEWARE OF DOG! In
bright red ink, then pointed to the cause…
A sleepy hound
there on the floor, who didn’t look a threat,
In fact, he
looked as comfortable as a sleepy dog could get.
So Paul, he
looked down at the dog, then back up to the sign,
“This cannot be
the dog!” he said. “Cause he looks so…benign!”
“Oh, that is
him,” the storekeep said. “Don’t let yourself be fooled,
“You drop your
guard with this one and you bet you will be schooled!"
“Before I hung
the sign,” he said, “There was a lot of hurt.
“And so I
thought to warn you folks and all your pain avert!”
Then Paul, he
watched that hounddog for a moment, maybe two,
Then shook his
head again and said, “What damage could he do?”
“Waaal, I’ll
tell you,” said the man. “I know he don’t have much for zip…
“But before I
put that sign up, almost everybody tripped!”

Cause Mondays do get knocked a lot,
With poetry, we all besought
To try to make the week begin
With gentle thoughts,
Perhaps a grin?
So Karen, Charlotte, Mimi, me
Have crafted poems for you to see.
And now you’ve read what we have wrought…
Did we help?
Or did we not?
With poetry, we all besought
To try to make the week begin
With gentle thoughts,
Perhaps a grin?
So Karen, Charlotte, Mimi, me
Have crafted poems for you to see.
And now you’ve read what we have wrought…
Did we help?
Or did we not?

Laughing! I'm always tripping over Libby so understand the "hazard!"
ReplyDeleteBack in 2015, I took a falls prevention course and the #1 cause of people in my class having fallen was tripping over their dog. Truth!
ReplyDeleteHeeheehee! Yes, I can imagine they would trip. He lives the life of Riley.
ReplyDeleteEven after you quit Poetry Monday, would you be offended if I went ahead and did a Monday poem anyway? It's a habit and I do enjoy it.
Ohmyword, Mimi! I'd LOVE it!!!
DeleteA danger to the visitors indeed.
ReplyDeleteOnly today I found out that you're ending this fun, and I feel sad.
Like Messymimi I find this a nice habit even if I've been slacking recently, and like her I do not feel like giving it up.
