The Future

For fourteen years, I’ve had such fun,
Telling tales of life: homespun,
I’d talk of growing up and stuff,
Of doings planned, or ‘off the cuff’,
Of mischief made and laughter wrought,
Some lessons learned, successes sought,
A little fact with fiction mixed,
With lots to entertain betwixt,
I love to write, you know I do,
But now’s the time to say, “Adieu.”
New challenges for me to face,
(I pray I’ll do all this with grace!)
What I’ll miss most is all of you,
Will I be back? I’ve not a clue…
But know as I walk these new trails,
And try to keep on telling tales,
That in my thoughts, you all will be,
I’ll hold your mem’ry close to me…
The future beckons. It’s so bright,
(Soon everything will be just right,)
So know as now my blog I close,
I’ll still be writing poems and prose.
I dedicate it all to you,
And leave my love and prayers, too!

My good friends, Charlotte and Mimi,
Will ‘Poem’ on, but without me,
Cause that’s what Monday is about,
I can’t conceive a week without!

Cause Mondays do get knocked a lot,
With poetry, we all besought
To try to make the week begin
With gentle thoughts,
Perhaps a grin?
So KarenCharlotteMimi, me
Have crafted poems for you to see.
And now you’ve read what we have wrought…
Did we help?
Or did we not?

This post today will be my last,
The Future surely got here fast!
But two of us will carry on
I pass, to them, the 'poem' baton!

Bus(t)ing Home

Because we lived a long, long way from town,
We had to ride the bus, us bunch of clowns,
And ‘early’ doesn’t quite describe our start…
Cause sunrise (with our ride), was oft’ a part.

We had adventures there, yes, that is true,
My friends and I, we laughed and read and drew,
The hour went by and turned to day from night…
And suddenly, the school’d come into sight.

At times, when it was raining cats and dogs,
The roads would turn from sandy soil to bog,
The vacuum windshield wipers, both would slow…
Whenever the bus driver tried to go.

One day the bus was having chills and pains,
Complaining as we drove across the plains,
At Angyal’s Hill, our driver told us, “Shush!”
Then made us all get out and start to push!

Now often, I hear folks talk ‘bout their past,
How ‘uphill both ways’ can’t be called a ‘blast’,
But they just simply can’t compete with us…
Cause we walked uphill AND we pushed the bus!

We win!

Sea Snacks

Two heads popped up above the surf,
Two monsters of the sea, they were,
They recently had left their cave,
Were sailing west above the waves,
And looking for someone to scare,
Plus, maybe find some tasty fare.
A string of ships were sailing by,
A gleam sparked in one monster's eye,
And moving closer, took a sniff,
Then gobbled that ship in a jiff!
The second and the third one, too,
He did what monster's always do
And one by one, he ate them all...
His buddy'd watched this all befall,
Then tapped his friend upon his neck,
And loudly asked him, "What the heck?!
Potatoes are what those ships hold!
There's better stuff--or so I'm told."
His friend just raised his monster brow,
Said, "I don't mean to cause a row,
I know there's much more tasty fare,
In lots of ships tween here and there,
Potatoes Ships are snack-y fun,
And none of us can eat just one!

Emoji-ing

Emojis, now, are what we’ve got
If you’re smiling😊. Or if not,😔
Because we’re never face-to-face,😙
When body language’d be the case💃,
Creative’s what we’ve had to get👩‍🎨,
Show anger😠, fear😨, joy🥳 or regret😟,
And sadness😢, yes, there’s some for that😫,
When we’re online and want to chat😛.
Thank Japanese (this I confess)😇,
That ‘text’ emotions aren’t a guess,🤔
Cause ‘e’ means ‘picture’🏞, that’s for sure,
While ‘moji’ just means ‘character’🧧,
And put together, they compute💻,
And give us something really cute😻!
But there’s one drawback I do tell…🤫
Sometimes they don’t translate too well🤯😱😭,
So my advice 🧐from me to you,
Use those emojis🤗, yes, please do,
They liven up what could be dull🥱,
Expression goes to 10 from null!🤪😏🥴
But say you won’t in this tech race⛹…
Forget talking face-to-face!😊😊😊

Mirror'd

My mirror told me that I had an entertainment ‘glow’,
Then it clarified: I have a face for radio!

A mirror will never lie. Let’s face it, it would be uncouth,
But, trust me, it can be selective how it tells the truth!

I think my mirror needs glasses, ‘cause it fills me with distress
To see myself there looking like a big ol’ blurry mess!

“Wanna see something scary?” said my mirror (once) to me,
Showed a reflection of my bank account. More scary cannot be!

My mirror advised more makeup on my face. Said, ‘Just because’,
I said to stop reflecting back so many of my flaws!

I really love my mirror, cause without it I’d not see,
Reflections of the happy girl I really want to be!

Broke Baroque

A museum planned a concert with their Baroque instruments,
But then they saw the gadgets needed care for the event,
A great Vivaldi violin and a harpsicord of Bach’s,
The keyboard needed tuning and the violin had pox.
And all the others needed even more of urgent care,
And so they called the specialist to help with the repairs,
The man looked them all over (and there really were a bunch),
He said, “Where should I start? And know, I won’t be done by lunch!”
Director looked at him and said, “When you’re making all your picks…”
“Our rule for this concert? If it ain’t Baroque, don’t fix!”

With poetry, we all besought

Golf Hazards

Daddy loved telling this one...

Our Gary, well, he loved his golf, much more than I can say,
He’d waited for this tee time. It was such a perfect day!
And, with his friends, enjoyed the game. Was really doing fine,
It seemed that, on this day, the planets truly had aligned,
The four of them were teeing off there on the seventh hole,
Just where the public road, around the busy golf course scrolls,
T’was at that moment that a funeral cavalcade went by,
Then Gary dropped his club and doffed his hat and closed his eyes,
He stayed like that the whole time as the convoy wound around,
His friends just stood and waited, didn’t make a single sound,
Then, when the cars had gone, and peace had once more been restored,
They looked at Gary. One said, “Man, you surely had me floored!
I am impressed with your respect and taking time to pay
So much esteem to that poor soul and showing it that way!”
Ol' Gary shrugged, put on his hat and grabbed himself a beer,
“Well, what the hay,” he said. “We two were married forty years!”

Buzz'd

 My kids' favourite 'Buzzard' joke...

The thrilling circus passed this way,
Folks of the desert came to play,
Poor Bobby Clown, so old and grey,
He’d gone out drinking. Went astray,
Could not find his way back. Dismay!
He did not live to see the day.

And somewhere on the sand, he lay,
Until along about midday,
Some buzzards passing by the way,
Decided: here, they all would stay,
No one alive to tell them ‘nay’,
And good ol’ Bob would be their prey.

The poor old clown had some decay,
And also just the right bouquet,
Knowing nothing’d come their way,
That’s better than a ‘Bob souffle’,
The buzzards’d better not delay,
They started and they ate away.

But one of them, we’ll call him Jay,
Turned up his nose and moved away,
The others watched him with dismay,
Each were wond’dring, “What the hey?”
They stopped and asked him why he strayed…
“Cause it tastes funny,” Jay did say!

Backfired

My Husby is a kind man, given oft to kindly acts,
Doing things for family—and me—in point of fact,
So, Random acts of kindness may cross others on their way,
But Random Acts of Kindness come to me most every day!
Pandemic’s end’s the signal of our travel once again,
And Husby’s started planning for the where’s and for the when’s.
This week, he bought a world map, stuck it on the kitchen wall,
Then turned and grinned at me, said, “Time to heed ol’ travel’s call!”
In kindness, handed me a dart, said, “Hon, you can decide,
Exactly where we’ll go, and for a little while, abide,
Just give the dart a throw, my dear, wherever it does land,
Well, that is where I’ll take you, be it rock or snow or sand!”
I smiled at him and took the dart and carefully, did aim,
(Hoping for lands warm and bright, that tourists acclaim!)
I guess I should have better aimed, moved to the right a smidge,
It looks like holidays for us will be behind the fridge!

BBB's and Poetry Monday

Today's post is a Double Header! My Best of Boomer Blogs AND Poetry Monday!
First, this week's BBBs!

Most people think about what they want in the new year, but this week over at Carol Cassara's blog, she writes about things she wishes would go away in the newyear.

Laurie Stone

Laurie’s
son Patrick came into the kitchen, his face worried. “I caught a mouse in the basement.” She looked at him and shrugged. Mice came into her house all the time, part of life in the Connecticut woods. “Put it out,” she said. He looked at her like she’d just spoken Swahili. “How do I do that?” Laurie sighed. Time to teach her oldest the ways of humane animal relocation.

Jennifer Koshak

Do you have any memorable vacations? How about any memorable vacations that people outside of your friends and family might be talking about?  That's what happened to Jennifer, of Unfold and Begin, when she and her family were vacationing in Maine. In What's One of Your Memorable Vacations, she shares the hilarious results.

January is when many of us start thinking about improving our fitness after gorging during the holidays. However, as we age, why should exercising be tortuous? Rebecca Olkowski, with BabyBoomster.com writes about why fitness over 50 should be fun instead.

Watch out for scam emails, texts, and phone calls that say your Social Security number will be suspended, warns Rita R. Robison, consumer and personal finance journalist. Robison received an email saying her number was going to be terminated within 48 hours. You’ll never guess who “signed” the email.

There's a lot of suffering in the world - physical pain and emotional pain. While making sure that people get access to experts, Corinne explores how we can  reach out and create comfort for people in our lives who are suffering from pain

And now me!
The shirt was worn out. It had to go.
But those buttons still had life and could definitely be re-purposed.
But while Diane was about to fetch the snips and do a proper job, Husby took matters into his own hands.
With spectacular results.

And that's a wrap!
I hope you enjoyed these wonderful bloggers as much as I do!

And now Poetry Monday: Un-Lost

Some years have passed since this took place,
But still, this story has a space,
It was the first time Husby showed,
This knack he has when on the road.

We’d flown to Boston, rented there
A car to take us everywhere,
To Boston Common we would go,
And see the things it had to show.

I had the map, seemed apropos,
While Husby manned the ‘stop-and-go’,
I studied closely--no mistake,
The ramp we two must shortly take.

It came and went, to my dismay,
I scratched my head, said, “That’s okay.
There is another route will do…
Turn there on number 42!”

Again I watched it pass us by,
I gave my man the evil eye,
And struggled to find other ways
To reach our target place this day.

Instruction Husby did ignore,
(It made his wife a little sore!)
And though this town he did not know,
Found on his own the place to go.

Disgusted, I just tossed the map,
Refrained from giving him a slap,
And made a very solemn vow
To never navigate. No how!

In England, he proved once again,
Without a map, he had the ‘ken’,
That even overseas, his skills,
Would work just fine o’er moor and hill.

We’ve traveled lots, we’re still alive,
I simply sit and let him drive,
It’s peaceful merely knowing that
Getting lost ain’t on the map!

Cause Mondays do get knocked a lot,
With poetry, we all besought
To try to make the week begin
With gentle thoughts,
Perhaps a grin?
So KarenCharlotteMimi, me
Have crafted poems for you to see.
And now you’ve read what we have wrought…
Did we help?
Or did we not?

Next week, please join us here again...
We'll be discussing clocks 'bout then!
