The Monthly Meeting...
“Please tell us of your problem, sir,
We're here to give you aid.
Supporting is how we get through,
Speak up! Don't be afraid!”
“Just look around the circle, Sir,
There’s not but friends you’ll see.
Get the whole thing off your chest,
Then Madge will serve us tea...”
“It started much as any day,”
He said. And then he sighed,
“A run together in the dawn,
I was so proud, I cried.”
“Then changing for the workday, but
A load of laundry first.
Who knew that act would be her last?
‘Twas like we both were cursed!”
“So innocent as soap went in,
Naive as buttons pressed,
Then watched as clothes began to swirl,
And tumble with the rest.”
“All was well until the load,
Was moved into the drier.
And watching it together as
The heat was getting higher.”
“Then she was gone, t’was just that fast,
My love was there no more.
And all I had was memories
Of what we had before.”
“I’ve tossed it round within my mind,
There really is no doubt
As a pair of socks, we two went in,
As a single, I came out.”

Cause Mondays do get knocked a lot,
With poetry, we all besought
To try to make the week begin
With gentle thoughts,
Perhaps a grin?
So Karen, Charlotte, Mimi, me
Have crafted poems for you to see.
And now you’ve read what we have wrought…
Did we help?
Or did we not?
With poetry, we all besought
To try to make the week begin
With gentle thoughts,
Perhaps a grin?
So Karen, Charlotte, Mimi, me
Have crafted poems for you to see.
And now you’ve read what we have wrought…
Did we help?
Or did we not?
Next week, come give us all a hand,
Pay tribute to the Rubber Band!

Ha, ha, a support group, perfect. I wonder if all of those mates are off somewhere partying.
ReplyDeleteProbably! AWOL! ;)
DeleteLove your poem, and I feel so sad for all those lone socks out there.
ReplyDeleteRight? Once so close . . .
DeleteSmiling - and hoping that his lost love returns.
ReplyDeleteIt is possible. We believe in sockly miracles!
DeleteHa ha ha - what a great poem - I love it! Perhaps the pace was getting a bit too hot for her and she is cooling off in that hard-to-get-to space between the washer and the drier. For other lone socks out there, I may have an answer (or two) ...
ReplyDeleteThere is a special tree not far from here
That bears mysterious fruit
Not one you can eat, but one that warms
A cold foot inside a shoe or boot.
Known locally as the Patron Tree
Of Lost Socks, it stands ready to bear
Stray socks that are found in the neighbourhood
They will all find a welcome there.
Hanging from its branches you will see
Socks of different sizes and colours
And perhaps someone below searching eagerly
For a lost sock to take home to its brother.
.....
If you are missing a sock from your washing line
Don’t search here - you have been misled;
Better by far that you spend your time
Looking under the blankets in Buster’s bed.
Hahahaha! What a great idea! The tree, not Buster's bed . . .
DeleteSuper poem, SBM!
Wonderful poem! Yes, we need a lost socks tree, and i wouldn't be surprised to find a few under the cat beds.
DeleteWhat ever can we do about those lone socks???
ReplyDeleteIt's just so sad, Beth! ;)
DeleteI do like the idea of the Patron Tree. Every neighborhood should have one.
ReplyDeleteOur house needs one. Or two...
DeletePoor, lonely sock. Yes, it happens all too often.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the smile, your poems are always such fun.
Yes, mine is supposed to be a song, but i cannot write a tune, that's beyond me.
I remember when all the kids were home and we fostered as well, I just bought a different colour for each kid, several pairs in act, so the only time they couldn’t get a match was when they were down to one sock!
DeleteWhat a brilliant strategy, Diane. You were obviously destined to raise a large brood!
